Assam CM’s forged signature case: Prime accused arrested from New Delhi

Guwahati, Sept 14: A team of Guwahati police has arrested the prime accused in the case related to forging of signature of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from New Delhi on Sunday.

The arrested person has been identified as Imran Sha Choudhury. He is in the process of being brought to Guwahati, a statement from Assam police informed.

“Imran Shah Choudhury, kingpin of the crime, claimed that it was very easy for him to get them (four other persons) a contract in the PHE dept through the CMO directly, but he would take 3% as commission,” the Assam Police said in the statement.

According to the police, Choudhury gave them the forged papers, which they finally submitted to the Chief Engineer of PHE department.

Police said Choudhury had created the forged documents with the help of three persons- Dilip Das, Anupam Choudhury and Prakash Basumatary.

“They scanned an actual signature of Hon’ble CM to create the forged documents in the shop of one Naba Roy,” Police said.

Two of the accused in the case are still on the run. “Two accused persons Anupam Choudhury and Prakash Basumatary are absconding. Searches are on,” Assam police said.

Case of forgery

An investigation into the case began after an FIR was lodged by the CMO on September 8, 2021 stating that “a note had been given to the Chief Engineer (PHE) Water, Assam for work to be allotted in the name of Lohit Construction, with forged signature of Hon’ble CM”.
A case was registered in Dispur Police Station and investigated upon. Within few hours Guwahati Police and Sivsagar Police picked up four persons connected to Lohit Construction and they were thoroughly examined. These four persons were Binit Poddar, Dipjyoti Dutta, Jaimini Mohan, Pankaj Gogoi.

They revealed that they had come in contact of one Imran Sha Chaudhary through the brother-in-law of Jaimini Mohan.

Police said Binit Poddar and Dipjyoti Dutta managed to collect Rs. 9 lakhs from friends and family and delivered it to Imran Sha Chaudhary who gave them the forged papers, which they finally submitted to the Chief Engineer, PHE Department.

Police investigation revealed that Imran Sha Chaudhary and one Rajib Kalita escaped to Delhi immediately after they came to know about the FIR.
