Dibrugarh, Aug 26: Assam Company India Ltd (ACIL) and the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) on Tuesday finalised the annual Durga Puja bonus for tea garden workers for the financial year 2024–25 at a meeting held at the ACMS office in Dibrugarh.

The agreement provides for a 20% bonus, with 15% to be paid ahead of Durga Puja and the remaining 5% before Magh Bihu. Assam cabinet minister and ACMS general secretary Rupesh Gowala confirmed the decision, calling it a “timely step to ensure festive cheer for tea workers.”

The meeting was attended by ACMS president Paban Singh Ghatowar, senior officials of ACIL, and labour leaders. Both sides stressed the importance of ensuring that festival bonuses are disbursed without delay.

Founded in 1839, Assam Company is the world’s first tea plantation company—the pioneer in establishing estates, branding, and exporting Indian tea. In 1845, it was awarded the Royal Charter by Queen Victoria.

With the bonus settlement in place, thousands of workers under ACIL’s estates can now look forward to a more secure and celebratory festive season.
