Guwahati, Dec 9: In a major revelation ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in 2024, the Congress party in Assam has asked its ticket aspirants to submit Rs. 1 lakh as application fee towards the ticket.
This was disclosed by BJP leader and Assam Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika through a social media post, in which he posted the alleged letter of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) to its ticket aspirants.
In the post on X, formerly twitter, Hazarika wrote: “₹1 lakh non refundable fee for a Cong ticket – that too with no possibility of winning! This is looks like a new scam @INCAssam.”
The letter signed by Bipul Gogoi, Geneal Secretary (Org) of APCC, reads: “As decided and directed by Hon’ble President, Assam PCC Shri Bhupen Kumar Borah, applications are hereby invited from all those Indian National Congress (INC) members who are willing to contest in the forthcoming Lok Sabha (LS) Elections, 2024 and seek the Party ticket from any of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam.”

“You are requested to fill in the enclosed form, and submit from 11th December, 2023 along with an Application Fee in the form of a Demand Draft of Rs 1,00,000/- (Rupees One Lakh only) drawn in favour of “Assam Pradesh Congress Committee”. The applicants must apply in a prescribed form enclosed herewith. Candidates are to give an undertaking as per the format enclosed herewith (extra page may be used if required).”
The letter also mentioned that the Congress party may vacate some of the seats in favour of their allies. In such a case, it assured to reimburse the application Fee to the applicant. The last date of submission of Application is December 19, 2023.
Assam has 14 Lok Sabha seats, the highest in the northeastern region.
In 2019 Lok Sabha polls, BJP won 9 seats and Congress won 3 seats.
