Guwahati, June 3: A Guwahati-based doctor, Debenjit Kumar Sharma, has been reported missing from the Parshuram Kund area in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lohit district since May 31, sparking an intensive search operation by local authorities.
Dr. Sharma was last seen leaving his resort around 8 AM on May 31. He has not been heard from since. His personal belongings — including his motorcycle, camera, leg guards, and identification cards — were later found undisturbed in his room.
Officials suspect the 39-year-old may have drowned in the Lohit River, which has been swelling due to heavy rainfall in the region.

“We suspect he may have gone near the river and was swept away by the rising floodwaters,” Lohit Superintendent of Police Thutan Jamba told reporters. “The resort owner informed Wakro Police Station on the evening of May 31, and we immediately launched a search and rescue operation, but he has not yet been traced.”
Search efforts continue amid difficult weather conditions. Authorities have urged visitors to the area to exercise caution due to rising water levels and strong currents in the Lohit River.
Parshuram Kund, a well-known pilgrimage site located on the banks of the river, attracts numerous visitors throughout the year, particularly during the monsoon season when water levels are known to fluctuate rapidly.
