GUWAHATI, June 22: Assam has taken a major step towards building its own professional cricket ecosystem with the official launch of the Assam Premier League (APL), a franchise-based T20 tournament that promises to provide a new platform for homegrown talent while taking the state’s cricketing aspirations to a national audience.
The league was formally unveiled on Sunday at the 91 Yards Club Auditorium at the ACA Stadium in Barsapara, where Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the APL’s official logo, trophy and franchise identities in the presence of BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia and senior officials of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA).

Describing the launch as a watershed moment for Assam cricket, ACA officials said the league would create a structured and competitive pathway for talented cricketers from across the state while strengthening Assam’s growing presence on the national cricket map.
Adding to the league’s profile, ACA announced that matches from the inaugural season will be broadcast live on Star Sports and streamed on JioHotstar, giving players from Assam unprecedented national exposure.
A key attraction of the launch ceremony was the unveiling of the eight franchise teams that will battle for honours in the maiden edition of the tournament:

Tezpur Titans
Dibrugarh Warriors
Barak Legends
Nagaon Rangers
Barpeta Braves
Guwahati Royals
Charaideo Sunriser

The event brought together cricket administrators, franchise owners, former players and members of Assam’s cricket fraternity, reflecting growing enthusiasm around what is being billed as the state’s biggest cricketing venture.
With the trophy unveiled, franchises introduced and preparations gathering pace, the Assam Premier League is set to open a new chapter for cricket in the state, offering local talent a high-profile stage and bringing franchise cricket to fans across Assam and beyond.
