Assam receives 10 Guinness World Records for ‘Amrit Brikshya Andolon’

Guwahati, Nov 30: The Assam government on Wednesday received 10 Guinness World Records certificates for a mega plantation drive in September-October, 2023.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma received the certificates at the Sri Manta Sankardev Kalashetra in Guwahati from Guinness World Records Adjudicator Swapnil Dangarikar for the state’s ‘Amrit Brikshya Andolon’.

As part of the drive, a total of 1,11,17,781 seedlings of commercially valuable tree species were planted across the state on a single day on September 17.

The entire exercise was carried out in the Jan bhagidarri model through the involvement of the self help groups, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, Education institutions, police personnel, tea garden workers, government officials and other citizens.

“Today Guinness World Records has acknowledged that 71 lakh people planted trees on September 17 and total 1,11,00,000 trees were planted. In addition, in the same event, we created 9 world records in different aspects of tree plantation. Today Guinness World Records has officially given us 10 citations and affirmed that Assam has created 10 world record,” Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told the media after the event.

He also took to X, formerly Twitter, to announce the World Records certificates received by the State. he tweeted: “The 9 Guinness World Records received today manifests the tremendous public support behind Amrit Brikshya Andolan. Inspired by Hon PM Shri @narendramodi ji’s vision of #MissionLiFE, a record 1 cr tree saplings were planted under this gargantuan effort. Well done Team Assam.”

CM Sarma further said, on April 7, 2025, 25,000 Bihuwa and Bihubati will perform on Bihu dance in New Delhi to create a new world record.

He also announced that the state will plant 3 crore saplings in 2024.
