Assam registered 76.55% voter turnout surpassing the national record

Guwahati, May 8: In the third and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Assam, the total voter turnout was 76.55 % by 9.30 p.m. in all four Lok Sabha constituencies.

Dhubri emerged as the frontrunner with the highest polling percentage, 81.93%, closely followed by Barpeta at 77.72%, Kokrajhar at 74.24%, and Guwahati at 70.10%. Guwahati recorded the lowest turnout among the quartet.

Voting began at 7 a.m., and the poling station’s doors closed at 5 p.m. Those who were in the queue successfully cast their vote.

A total of 47 candidates are contesting in the four Lok Sabha constituencies.

The electorate comprises 81,49,091 voters, including 40,48,436 women and 111 of the third gender, distributed across 9,516 polling stations.

According to the Election Commission of India’s latest data, the overall voter turnout in the third phase of the General Elections 2024 stands at 61.45% as of 8 pm. The highest voter turnout was recorded in Assam with 75.26%, followed by Goa with 74.27%, and Karnataka with 67.76%. The lowest voter turnout was recorded in Bihar, with 56.55%.
