Baghmara civil hospital conducts first-ever surgery, healthcare breakthrough in South Garo Hills

Must read

Tura, July 1: Healthcare facilities in South Garo Hills, Meghalaya, took a significant leap forward with the successful completion of the first-ever surgery in the newly operational operation theatre at Baghmara Civil Hospital.

Until now, such emergency procedures were only performed at Tura Civil Hospital, making this a historic advancement in healthcare access for the region.

Earlier today, a 25-year-old woman underwent an emergency Lower Segment Caesarean Section (LSCS) at Baghmara Civil Hospital due to fetal distress. A healthy baby girl weighing 2.6 kg was safely delivered. Both the mother and the newborn are reported to be in stable condition.

This development is part of a broader push by the Meghalaya government to strengthen healthcare facilities across the state. From upgrading operation theatres and equipping district hospitals with modern medical technology to training more doctors and specialists under national programmes, the state is making focused investments to bridge long-standing healthcare gaps, particularly in rural areas.
