Agartala, Nov 25: Police arrested three persons — including an alleged arms supplier from Bihar on November 24 and seized two firearms, four magazines, and three mobile phones in Agartala.
Superintendent of Police (West Tripura) Namit Pathak, accompanied by Additional SP Dhruva Nath, said the arrests were made during routine patrolling near Bandeshwar bridge along the bypass, when the Officer-in-Charge of AD Nagar Police Station spotted the suspects. On checking, police recovered two small firearms and magazines from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Tinku Debbarma and Sumendra Debbarma of Barkathal in Tripura, and Sibesh Kumar of Dumeria Khurd in Bihar, who allegedly brought the weapons into the state.
SP Pathak said a case is being registered under the Arms Act. Initial findings suggest that the firearms were transported from Bihar the same day.
“Only after further interrogation can it be confirmed how the arms were brought, for what purpose, and to whom they were meant to be delivered,” he added.
Police also seized an auto-rickshaw used by the arrested trio.
Notably, AD Nagar Police Station, located near Agartala railway station, has recorded multiple arms trafficking cases in recent years. In most instances, weapons were smuggled into Tripura by train, earlier linked to routes through Nagaland.
