Bike thieves caught while attempting to sell stolen bike at Baghmara

Tura, Feb 8: A gang of vehicle lifters who stole a motorcycle from Williamnagar town in East Garo Hills and had been in the process of disposing it off to a potential customer from Bangladesh were caught at Baghmara bride in South Garo Hills on Sunday morning.

Simreng Ch Momin of Nokil Awe locality in Williamnagar filed a police FIR informing that his motocycle ML-07 B 3848 had been stolen from his compound on Saturday night.

The bike thieves drove the two wheeler all the way from Williamnagar to the neighbouring district headquarters of Baghmara after striking a deal with a buyer to dispose of it across the international border.

But police had been on alert and were conducting vehicle checking at Baghmara bridge when they were stopped. The vehicle was seized and four suspects were arrested.

“The thieves were arrested while attempting to sell the bike. They have been handed over to East Garo Hills police,” said South Garo Hills superintendent of police Priyanshu Pandey.

The bike thieves are Chusrang R Marak of Mendipathar, Bapudup Rabha of Dainadubi, Bolong G Momin of Damra Tengasot (all trio from North Garo Hills district) and Wonder N Marak of Rongara Bolgisi gittim under Rongara block.

The arrested gang has been remanded to four days of police custody by a court in Williamnagar.
