Tura, Nov 21: Bilgaro X 2025—the Garo Hills’ most-awaited motorsport extravaganza— roared off this morning in Tura, marking the historic tenth edition of the rally. The event was flagged off at 7:30 a.m. by Adamkid M. Sangma, Advisor of the Tura Motor Sports Club (TMSC), at Rongkon Bridge, before competitors headed to the Hill Climb starting point at Aguraggre near Asanang.
This milestone edition has drawn 33 drivers from Jowai, Shillong, Assam, Nagaland, Garo Hills and mainland India, reflecting the rally’s rising prominence in the Northeast motorsport circuit. Adding weight to the lineup are veteran rally icons Chiborlang Walnang of Jowai and Sandeep Sharma of Delhi, whose participation brought prestige and nostalgia to the tenth-year celebration.
Stealing the spotlight this year is Noche Aranchiimiksa Sangma, the only female driver from Tura and a familiar name in rally circuits outside the Garo Hills. Making her Bilgaro debut, she has earned strong appreciation for breaking barriers and inspiring more women to enter motorsport.
The event features three competitive categories—SUV, Rookie and Car—ensuring an action-packed contest across skill levels. Day One opened with the Hill Climb, a gruelling five-kilometre stretch notorious for its steep gradients, sharp bends and unforgiving terrain.
The adrenaline continues on Day Two with the Sprint Rally at Dodinangre Asibra, where all 33 participants will vie for top honours on a fast, technical course. The rally will conclude with a prize distribution ceremony at Green Heaven, Tura, where a performance by CM-MGMP will add a festive finale to the motorsport showcase.
Significantly, this year also marks the return of a national-level rally driver to the Garo Hills after nearly a decade, underscoring Bilgaro’s growing pull. Organised annually by the Tura Motor Sports Club since 2015, Bilgaro has steadily evolved into one of Meghalaya’s premier motorsport attractions—and the 2025 edition stands as a fitting tribute to its ten-year journey.
