Williamnagar, Nov 21: The newly constructed Williamnagar Meat and Fish Market along with the extension office building of the Williamnagar Municipal Board (WMB) was inaugurated by Minister incharge for Soil and Water Conservation, PHE, and Housing, Marcuise N. Marak on Friday.

The event was attended by East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner R.P. Marak, Superintendent of Police Stephen Rynjah, RPDC Tura Deputy Chairman Sengbath R. Marak, senior government officials, district heads and other dignitaries.

The new facility is expected to offer a cleaner, safer and more organised environment for vendors, providing proper shelter and improved conditions for their daily business.

Speaking at the inauguration, Marcuise said Meghalaya had recorded visible progress in infrastructure development under Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma’s leadership, noting an 11% improvement in financial growth. He credited WMB Chairman Benedick K. Sangma and CEO Ripamchi N. Sangma for their efforts in ensuring the completion of the market, which he said will allow meat and fish vendors to operate with dignity and better hygiene.

The minister also announced that the government is planning to construct a dedicated vegetable market in Williamnagar to ease challenges faced by local farmers during market days. Additionally, he informed that land had already been identified for a new slaughterhouse, urging vendors to cooperate with municipal officials on waste management and cleanliness.
