SHILLONG, NOV 21: A dignified programme was held at Raj Bhavan on Friday to honour war veterans, Veer Naris, and officials of the Sainik Welfare Board, celebrating their immense contribution, sacrifice, and dedication to the nation.
The event brought together ex‑servicemen, families of fallen heroes, and members of the defence community for a heartfelt tribute.
Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar graced the occasion, expressing deep respect and gratitude to the brave soldiers.

In his remarks, he said, “The nation’s peace, progress, and sovereignty stand firmly on the foundation of the sacrifices made by the armed forces. War veterans are living testaments of India’s military strength and patriotic spirit, whose service continues to inspire the younger generations.”
He acknowledged the courage and resilience of Veer Naris, noting, “Their strength symbolises a silent but profound form of bravery.”
The Governor also commended the officials of the Sainik Welfare Board for their tireless efforts.
“Their dedicated service ensures that the needs of the defence community are addressed with dignity and compassion, reflecting the State’s commitment to the welfare of those who served the nation.”
The programme featured experience sharing by war veterans, felicitation of veterans and Veer Naris by the Governor, and interactive sessions aimed at strengthening support systems for veterans and their families.
