Shillong, Sept 22: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) — an ally of the NPP-led MDA coalition — has asked the State government to complete the inquiry on Saubhagaya Scheme within the stipulated time of three months and place its findings in the public domain.
Informing this the Advisor to the Chief Minister and State BJP chief, Ernest Mawrie said, “Last time during the MDA meeting I raised many a question on the Saubhagaya Scheme where the Chief Minister clarified that they will constitute inquiry committee and I have clearly asked them to finish it within three month all the inquiry and it should be placed in the public domain.”
Under pressure from various fronts for a CBI probe, the State government had to forego its initial stand of denial mode and announced an “independent inquiry committee”.
The BJP has maintained that it will wait for the report of the inquiry and if it fails to satisfy them they will push for their initial demand for a CBI probe.
Will not remain silent because of Govt post: Mawrie
Asserting that the State BJP will not be silent on the issues and will continue to raise it but in the provided platform which is the MDA coalition committee meeting, Mawrie said, “From day one we the BJP have been raising the corruption issue, if we talk about MeECL, District Council or illegal transportation of coal, every issue we have raised.”
On allegations that Mawrie is enjoying the perks for being silent and was recently awarded the position of Advisor to the Chief Minister, Mawrie said, “This is a wrong perception. All other political party got their political appointment we did not have which I highlighted in the meeting and I never asked the Chief Minister for the post”.
“We will never be silent on the issue of corruption. We will continue to raise and follow the corruption issue, only the platform has changed and I have the right platform now which is the MDA meeting,” he asserted.
He further said, “We were the first one to raise the issue of corruption and I want to make it very clear that the Congress and other political joined the chorus from us”.
