Guwahati, Feb 25: Union Minister of State Pabitra Margherita has announced that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will launch a 400-kilometre-long Jan Ashirwad Yatra to seek the blessings of the people of Assam ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters, Margherita said the first phase of the yatra will begin on February 28 and conclude on March 6. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will lead the 400-km outreach programme, which will pass through 22 constituencies.
“We are launching the Jan Ashirwad Yatra to seek the blessings of the people of Assam. In every election, we have received full support and a mandate from the people. We are grateful for their continued trust. Keeping that in mind, we are once again reaching out to the people across the state,” Margherita said.
The yatra will cover Dhekiajuli, Borsola, Tezpur, Naduar, Rangapara, Jagiroad, Morigaon, Raha, Nagaon, Barhampur, Gohpur, Bihpuria, Naoboicha, Dhemaji, Sissiborgaon, Jonai, Khowang, Mahmora, Tingkhong, Naharkatia and Duliajan, covering over 400 kilometres of travel.
Margherita also announced a series of public engagement initiatives as part of the campaign. The Assam BJP has launched an essay competition and a “Reel on Development” contest, inviting citizens—particularly youth—to create short social media videos highlighting development works carried out under the BJP government in recent years.
“We appeal to every citizen to participate in these competitions and showcase the development work undertaken by the government,” he added.
