Nongpoh, Oct 10: A 13-year-old girl was found brutally murdered on Wednesday evening in Kalapangti village under Khyndewso area, falling within the jurisdiction of Mawlasnai Police Outpost in Ri-Bhoi district.

According to Superintendent of Police Ri Bhoi, the family began searching for the victim when she did not return home and her body was discovered around 7:20 PM. Police officers, along with the MFCSU team, conducted a thorough search of the place of occurrence (PO) before shifting the body to Nongpoh Civil Hospital late in the night.

Evidence from the scene was collected and seized by investigators. An inquest and post-mortem examination were carried out on October 10 at Civil Hospital, Nongpoh.

Police said that prima facie findings indicate it to be a case of rape and murder.

Around 1:30 pm on Thursday, Mawlasnai police personnel, accompanied by the family members, transported the body to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination as part of the investigation process.

A suspect has been identified but has been absconding since Octobe y “We are trying to arrest him as soon as possible.” pulice stated.
