Breathable buildings take centre stage at AAA Conclave 2026 in Shillong

Must read

Guwahati, April 14: Climate-responsive construction and the challenge of moisture in buildings dominated discussions at AAA Conclave 2026, where Zydex Paints pitched “breathable surfaces” as a key solution for the Northeast’s humid conditions.

The three-day conclave, organised by the Association of Architects Assam at Courtyard by Marriott, Shillong, from April 3 to 5, brought together architects, designers and industry stakeholders to deliberate on regionalism in architecture and sustainable building practices tailored to the region.

Highlighting a persistent issue in construction—trapped moisture within walls—Zydex Paints presented its silicate mineral paint technology as an alternative to conventional coatings. The company said its paints allow water vapour to escape while blocking liquid water ingress, a feature aimed at improving structural durability and indoor health.

The intervention is particularly relevant for Northeast India, where high humidity often leads to fungal growth, wall deterioration and shorter coating life. Industry experts at the conclave noted that addressing moisture at its source could significantly reduce maintenance costs and extend the lifespan of buildings.

“The future of construction is not about sealing buildings tighter; it is about enabling them to breathe,” said Amrendra Mishra, Chief Operating Officer of Zydex Industries. “We are manufacturing paints that breathe to protect, preserve, and become a part of structures for decades.”

The conclave also reflected a broader shift in the construction sector towards materials that respond to local climate conditions rather than relying on standardised solutions. Within this emerging approach, breathable mineral coatings are gaining attention as both a technical and sustainability-driven intervention.

Zydex Paints said it will continue to focus on high-performance, climate-aligned coating solutions as demand grows for more resilient and environmentally responsive buildings in the region.
