Catholic Church cautions people against ‘False Bishop’ in West Khasi Hills

Must read

Shillong, Jan 18: In a rare occasion, the Catholic Church has flagged the ‘false bishop’ who has been ordaining priests and cautioned the people to be wary of such individuals. The Bishop House of New Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills, has disapproved the canonisation of a priest in the village of Langniuh, Eastern West Khasi Hills, after learning that the man who dressed up as God’s shepherd and claimed to be a Bishop of the Catholic Church was actually false.

As per written information from Rev Fr Anselm Nonglang, Diocesan Administrator of the Nongstoin Diocese, there are many falsely acclaimed Bishops who have canonised many priests in the village of Langniuh, and also informed that the Catholic Church has no information about these newly ordained priests.

“It’s very sad to know that these days, there have been signs of activities which are against the faith of the Holy Catholic Church by some of the Christians belonging to the same faith itself from the Nongstoin Diocese. The Nongstoin Diocese highly condemns these activities which are against the Church especially those who falsely claim to be Bishops and falsely fabricate priestly ordains as done by the Catholic Church,” the statement read.

“The Catholic Church of Nongstoin has no information about the event of “Priest Canonisation” in the village of Langniuh which is near Mawtikhar and Rikhen. The individual who claimed to have been a bishop, is not in actuality a Bishop of the Catholic Church,” he added.

As per his statement, this is just his act to go against the Church. Citing the law, he said the rule of the Holy Catholic Church Canon Law, Can 751, clearly state about the three points which goes against the Church practice:
a. Heresy: It is a verse that stands against and does not allow any source which doesn’t allow the true meaning of the Catholic faith;
b. Apostacy: To fully let go of the Christian faith;
c. Schism: Something that does not go according to what the Pope or that doesn’t allow the Apostolic Faith of the followers.

Rev Fr Anselm Nonglang urged the believers to be vigilant of the “False Preachers” especially those who cover themselves as “a wolf dressed in a sheep’s clothing”.
