Guwahati, Oct 14: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against two senior officers of the Public Works Department (PWD), Bongaigaon, and an architect from a private company for their alleged involvement in the abetment of suicide of Joshita Das, Assistant Engineer, PWD, Bongaigaon.
The CBI took over the probe following an order by the Government of Assam dated August 11, 2025, and a subsequent notification from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, issued on October 7, 2025, transferring Bongaigaon Police Station Case No. 188/2025 to the central agency.

According to the CBI’s FIR, the deceased engineer was allegedly subjected to extreme and illegitimate work pressure by her seniors and associates — including the accused Executive Engineer, SDO (PWD, Bongaigaon), and an architect associated with a private firm — in connection with a PWD mini stadium project in Bongaigaon.
It has been alleged that Joshita Das was coerced, threatened, and criminally intimidated into preparing and approving irregular estimates and bills for the project, despite her objections. The sustained mental and professional harassment reportedly took a severe toll on her, eventually driving her to end her life.

The CBI registered the case on October 13, 2025, under charges related to abetment of suicide and criminal intimidation. The investigation into the allegations and surrounding circumstances is currently underway.
