Tura, Sept 28: The 5th Inter Mahari Men’s Football Tournament and the 3rd Inter Mahari Women’s Football Tournament concluded in grand fashion on Saturday at the P. A. Sangma Football Stadium, Dakopgre, Tura, celebrating the spirit of community and sporting excellence.
The much-anticipated event, which unites Maharis (clans) of the Garo community, drew massive participation and enthusiastic crowds from across the region.
In the men’s final, Chambugong Mahar itriumphed over Manda Mahari with a convincing 2–0 victory. In the women’s division, Mangsang Mahari edged past Gabil Mahari with a narrow 1–0 win to lift the title.
Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest was Arbinstone B. Marak, MLA of 48-Selsella Constituency and Chairman of the Meghalaya State Development Reforms Commission. Other dignitaries included Vibhor Agarwal, Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills; Nathawal S. Marak, MDC; F. Rahman, SP (Traffic); Bruno A. Sangma, SO I/c Tura; J. D. Sangma, Chairman, Tura Municipal Board; and Saljagring Marak, DSO, West Garo Hills.
