Shillong, Sep 13: The voice to seek justice for Late Cheristerfield Thangkhiew has reached Upper Shillong, where ‘Ka Sur Ehrngiew ki Nong Upper Shillong’ or the Voice of Upper Shillong People organised a signature campaign in Kynton and Laimer, Nongkseh.Former HNLC leader Cheristerfield Thangkhiew (fondly known as Bah Che) was killed in an alleged encounter after a joint team of East Jaintia Hills and East Khasi Hills police raided his house in Mawlai Kynton Massar in the wee hours of August 13, 2021.

On the killing of Bah Che, it sparked agitation all over in and around Shillong. The Voice of Mawlai People has organised series of agitation with the Voice of Malki People, the Voice of West Khasi Hills People, Voice of People of Pynursla, to name a few having also organised peaceful protests to show solidarity with the de and of Voice of Mawlai People.

On Monday the spark reached Upper Shillong where the KSU, HYC, FKJGP and HNYF under the flag of ‘ Sur Ehrngiew ki Nong Upper Shillong’ organised signature campaign in Laimer and Kynton, Nongkseh.

Effigies burnt

In the evening, the ‘Sur Ehrngiew ki Nong Upper Shillong’ also burnt effigies of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Government, Director of General Police (DGP) R. Chandranathan, East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Jagpal Singh Dhanao and the SP (Traffic) of East Khasi Hills District.

“Nga pynrem iaka System” a rap song which literal translate to “I condemned the System” was being played while burning of the effigies.

HYC General Secretary Upper Shillong unit said, “Why only suspend the police personnel whose guns are being snatched by the youth, but not the police officers who killed Cheristerfield Thangkhiew”.

KSU General Secretary Upper Shillong unit also condemned the Police department for mistaking the two sons of Late Cheristerfield Thangkhiew as his bodyguards.
