Shillong, Jan 22: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday inaugurated the office building of the Hima Mawphlang at Lumryngkew Mawiong, Mawphlang in East Khasi Hills.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister termed the inauguration ‘historic’ as he said that the Hima has lived and performed sacred traditions for close to 1000 years but functioned without an office.
Terming Hima Mawphlang as heritage of the people, he said it has been standing as a symbol of culture, tradition and identity.
He also assured to sanction funds for the infrastructure requirements of the office.
Lauding Mawphlang village as a revered tourist place for its Sacred Grove, the Heritage Village, he announced that ₹25 Crore is being sanctioned through Swadesh Darshan Scheme for Tourism Center and infrastructure development of the Sacred Grove area.
He also announced that posts have been sanctioned for the Mawphlang Science & Commercial College and classes will commence from this year.

He also announced ₹1 Lakh for Mawphlang Secondary School and ₹1 Lakh for Sh. Pynshailang Lyngdoh and his group to procure musical instruments
The chief minister also urged Hima Mawphlang to ensure the rich heritage is documented to be preserved for generations and shared with the world. He said that he will extend the CM’s Research Grant for taking up research in the areas.
