Imphal, Oct 10: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) president Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday reaffirmed his party’s firm stand on preserving Manipur’s territorial integrity, while advocating for dialogue and cooperation among all communities to restore peace in the state.

Addressing the media in Imphal, Sangma responded to questions regarding the ongoing conflict in Manipur and the Kuki community’s demand for a separate administration. He made it clear that the NPP does not support any move that threatens the unity of the state.

“The territorial integrity of Manipur is something the National People’s Party firmly believes in. We are not here to compromise on that,” Sangma asserted. He, however, added that discussions on improving administrative efficiency within Manipur’s existing boundaries could be explored, as long as they do not undermine the state’s unity.

Emphasizing the need for dialogue, the Chief Minister said that meaningful engagement among all stakeholders remains the only path toward reconciliation. “There is always a meeting point that can be reached — but that depends on dialogue, the will of the people, and the commitment of every stakeholder,” he said.

Appealing to all communities to look beyond divisions, Sangma urged leaders to prioritize peace and address the humanitarian crisis that has persisted for months. “The innocent people of Manipur have suffered for too long. It is time we move forward through sincere and inclusive dialogue,” he said.

Sangma said a collective effort is needed to rebuild trust and ensure lasting peace and development in Manipur.
