NPP a voice for the Northeast, says Conrad Sangma

Must read

Imphal, Oct 10: National People’s Party (NPP) president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma reaffirmed the party’s role as the political voice of the Northeast, underscoring its grassroots origins and people-centric approach during his address in Imphal on Thursday.

Speaking to the media, Sangma highlighted that the NPP was founded in Manipur and has since evolved into the only national party in India that was created entirely by and for the states of the Northeast. “We are not a party driven by a high-command culture,” he said, emphasizing that the NPP’s strength lies in its decentralized leadership and strong connect with local communities.

Sangma noted that while the NPP maintains a clear organizational structure, it remains firmly rooted in listening to and addressing regional concerns. “We value the voices of our people and our state leaders. Whenever there’s an issue, we act swiftly and decisively,” he said.

Pointing to the political gap that often leaves the Northeast underrepresented in national politics, Sangma expressed confidence that the NPP is uniquely positioned to fill that void.

He said the party’s focus is now on expanding its organizationally base and continuing to serve as a genuine platform for the aspirations and unity of the region.
