Shillong, July 25: Meghalaya Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Saturday stressed the importance of science and technology-driven learning while attending the SPARK Meghalaya Certification Day at Nongtalang Government Higher Secondary School in West Jaintia Hills.
The event celebrated students who successfully completed the SPARK Meghalaya programme, an initiative aimed at promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education and experiential learning in schools.
The programme was attended by the District School Education Officer (DSEO), West Jaintia Hills, the Assistant Commissioner, the CEO of Avenues, school authorities, teachers, students and other dignitaries.
Congratulating the students, Rymbui said programmes like SPARK Meghalaya are transforming classrooms into spaces where students learn through exploration, experimentation and practical application.
He urged students to cultivate innovation, creativity and critical thinking, describing them as essential skills for the future. The minister also reiterated the Meghalaya government’s commitment to strengthening quality education through greater emphasis on STEM education, digital literacy and experiential learning across the state.
A major attraction of the event was a showcase of student-led STEM projects, where participants demonstrated innovative models and practical solutions developed during the programme. The presentations highlighted how hands-on learning had enhanced students’ understanding of scientific concepts while boosting their creativity and confidence.
The Certification Day marked another milestone in Meghalaya’s efforts to build an innovation-driven education ecosystem and equip students with the skills needed for a rapidly changing world.
