SHILLONG, OCT 10: Laban-Mawprem MDC Ricky Shullai on Friday convened a meeting with the Raid Laban Dorbar Pyllun, Hima Mylliem and other stakeholders to discuss the long-pending construction of a 600-meter link road connecting to Shillong viewpoint.
According to him, the project has been stalled since 2018.
“The meeting was a fruitful one. The myntris from Hima Mylliem have considered and very soon they will send the approval letter to the district council. Once we get the approval from the district council, the NOC will be available with the Raid Laban Dorbar Pyllun where they can initiate again with the government so that they can make this dream pending for many years come true,” Shullai, who also conducted an inspection of the land for the proposed road, told reporters.
Shullai said that the proposed road will ease numerous problems faced by locals, tourists, and shopkeepers in the area. The road will also provide an alternative route, connecting to Laitkor and Woodland Nursing Centre, benefiting commuters and promoting tourism.
According to him, the Air Force authorities have intermittently restricted public access to the existing road leading to the Shillong viewpoint on security grounds, notably during the Pathankot incident for about three months and again for nearly two and a half years during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“(On completion of this link road), it will therefore be a big blessing for our people,” he added.
Asked, the MDC expressed optimism about the project’s implementation, citing the government’s efforts to promote tourism in the area.
“Today everyone is present and we hope we do not see any issue anymore so we hope that the KHADC executive committee will take decision to approve and once we get the NOC that means it will be success and many things we can initiate specially with the government also is coming up with many projects to promote tourism in the area,” he said.
He assured that the project would be transparent and benefit not only the local population but also tourists and commuters.
