Boko, Dec 9: Assam witnessed a historic day as Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma formally distributed sanction letters under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) to over 3,25,234 beneficiaries at a central function held in Boko, Kamrup district.

The grand ceremony at Gandhi Maidan was attended by Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjit Kumar Dass and Palashbari MLA Hemanga Thakuria, MLA Nandita Das underscoring the government’s commitment to rural upliftment.

The Chief Minister described the occasion as a milestone in Assam’s housing mission, noting that the distribution of sanction letters brings thousands of families closer to owning safe and dignified homes.

“Today is a historic day as more than three lakh families in Assam will receive sanction letters for their PMAY-G homes, taking them another step closer to becoming homeowners and fulfilling their dreams,” Sarma said.

Officials highlighted that the first phase of PMAY-G implementation in Assam has been completed, with accelerated efforts to clear pending housing units and expand coverage.

The program prioritizes families in flood-prone and erosion-affected areas, aiming to enhance resilience while also improving access to sanitation, water, and electricity. Assam now records one of the highest uptakes of PMAY-G in the Northeast, reflecting the state’s push for inclusive rural development.

Adding a cultural dimension to the day, the Chief Minister also reflected on Assam’s growing global recognition following the Post Malone concert in Guwahati.

The American rapper and singer performed his maiden show in India on December 8 at the Khanapara Veterinary College ground, drawing thousands of fans from across the country and abroad.

The concert, organized in partnership with Assam Tourism Development Corporation and BookMyShow Live, marked a turning point for the state’s live entertainment economy.

Post Malone’s performance included a heartfelt tribute to late Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg, which resonated deeply with the audience.

The Chief Minister remarked, “People from America, London, Europe, and France came to witness the concert in Guwahati. This is a proud day for Assam. We have become an international destination. Tourists will not just stay for two days, but for four to five days, which will have a positive impact on Assam.”

The twin developments—the distribution of PMAY-G sanction letters and the global spotlight from Post Malone’s concert—symbolize Assam’s dual progress: strengthening grassroots welfare while simultaneously emerging as a hub for international tourism and cultural exchange.
