Shillong, Feb 3: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social organization (CoMSO) on Wednesday called on Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong to remind the state government about the proposed meeting in Delhi with central leadership on ILP.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, CoMSO chairman Robertjune Kharjahrin said, “We were informed that the Deputy Chief Minister is likely to leave for Delhi on February 5 and the Chief Minister is likely to leave for Delhi on February 7. Ofcourse, they have other things (to discuss) but an appointment with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also one of the agendas.”
Even as the anti-influx groups have threatened to resort to agitation if the Home Ministry delays giving an appointment to the anti-influx groups in Delhi.
He also warned, “If the Union Home Minister delays in giving the appointment, it would mean that he is not serious and we will be compelled to announce our agitation.”
It may be mentioned that the organization as well as the State cabinet has submitted memorandums to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, following a discussion that has begun. The state government is in contact with the Home Ministry for an appointment. Agreeing that the Home Ministry has not notified any date for the meeting since there is no communication but the anti-influx groups expressed their optimism about the upcoming meeting
Earlier, the pressure groups have expressed disappointment over Shah’s refusal to discuss the ILP resolution and some have even termed it as a big insult to the MDA government and the people of the state.
‘No ILP, no railways’
The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organization (CoMSO) said it would not allow the resumption of the railway projects in the state as it rejected any talks on the railway until a strong mechanism like the Inner-Line Permit (ILP) under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulations, 1873, is placed.
The CoMSO chairman Robertjune Kharjahrin told reporters on Wednesday said, “We are very clear that no ILP, no discussion on railway. It is only after ILP is implemented, then we may have a thought on railways. Railway without mechanisms to regulate entry and settlement of illegal immigrants is not acceptable in our state.”
Rejecting the proposal of UDP, the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organization said they are not in favor of goods trains even.
Earlier, Prestone Tynsong, Deputy Chief Minister asserted that without taking all the stakeholders on board, the state government will not move forward with the railway project.
Tynsong further informed that the project is now the responsibility of the Ri Bhoi district administration and the state government has entrusted the latter to sit down with concerned stakeholders to clear the air on the project.
