Conrad hits back at Meghalaya BJP Prez, asks why BJP has stopped MP’s Local Area Development Scheme

Must read

Shillong, Dec 4: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday said the Centre has stopped implementation of the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) not only in Tura parliamentary constituency but throughout the country since Covid time.

Speaking to reporters, Conrad said, “Throughout the country, during the Covid time, the Government of India has stopped implementation of MPLAD schemes. So, it is not just in the constituency of Tura but it is all over the country that the MP schemes were affected and this was done by the BJP-led NDA government and therefore you can ask the BJP president himself about that; he will know, I am sure.”

The BJP state president Rikman G Momin had alleged that the sitting Tura MP Agatha K Sangma had failed to implement the MP schemes in Garo Hills.

The chief minister claimed that the Tura MP has been playing a very crucial role in as far as implementation of the central schemes is concerned.

“Apart from the MP scheme, you have to realise the MP responsibilities have to do with a large number of central schemes. Today, our MP has played a very crucial role whether it is in projects like PMGSY, it is based under her recommendations and her follow ups that programmes and schemes moved forward and it is under her monitoring that all these things went ahead. So, she plays a very crucial role in ensuring that PMGSY sanctions were made from Centre. As without her recommendation it doesn’t go through. So, she has done these different programmes and in Jal Jeevan all the kinds of support we need from the centre, support at least for Garo Hills have come from the MP. Whenever we require, she has approached the ministers and the government to ask for help for these kinds of programmes,” he said.

“So therefore, when it comes to development one has to realise MP’s responsibility is not just MP schemes, which as I said were affected for the entire country where government of India stopped the scheme, but the development is in other departments also which our MP has been doing in a very aggressive manner. Not only that in MP scheme, wherever the scheme has come in and wherever the money has come in, she has implemented and all of that has transparently been shared with the people also,” he added.
