Cyclone Remal aftermath in Mizoram

AIZAWL, May 28: Aftermath of Cyclone Remal has left the northeastern state of Mizoram grappling with widespread devastation. Torrential rains and fierce winds have wreaked havoc across the region.

A large stone quarry collapsed in Mizoram.The quarry, was located on the outskirts of the city, and was a vital source of construction material for the region.

Eyewitnesses and local sources fear that many workers might be trapped under the rubble of the collapsed quarry. At the time of the incident, numerous labourers were reportedly inside the quarry.

In response to the disaster, search and rescue operations have been launched with urgency. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

Community cemetery in Aizawl also collapsed due to the unrelenting rains. The cemetery, is a historical site, several graves were qwashed away, causing heartbreak for many families who have lost their ancestral resting places.

Travel and connectivity have been severely impacted by the cyclone, with a massive landslide blocking the main road to Lengpui Airport, Mizoram’s only airport. This blockage has isolated the state from aerial supplies and emergency aid. Efforts are underway to clear the debris and restore access, but it may take days before the road is fully functional again.
