Guwahati, May 10: Panic and anger gripped Tatibama Nirulpur village under Palashbari constituency after herds of wild elephants allegedly entered the locality again, damaging several homes and food stocks during the night.
Residents said houses belonging to Sarbeswar Kalita, Madhab Kalita, Bharatiya Kalita and Mukut Kalita were partially or completely damaged in the latest elephant raid, leaving families traumatised and struggling to recover their belongings.

In one of the worst-hit incidents, a wild elephant reportedly entered the house of senior BJP worker Sarbeswar Kalita, ransacking the property and consuming stored paddy and rice. Villagers said the attack caused significant losses to the family.
Locals claimed that elephant herds have been entering the village almost daily in recent weeks, destroying homes, granaries and crops, forcing many residents to spend sleepless nights in fear.
“We are living in constant terror. Every night we fear elephants may return and destroy more houses,” a villager said.

The affected families said they reside on legally owned patta land outside any reserve forest area, raising concerns over the increasing frequency of human-elephant conflict in the region.
Villagers also accused the Rani Forest Division of failing to take adequate preventive measures despite repeated incidents. They demanded immediate intervention, deployment of protection teams and long-term measures to prevent further elephant incursions into the village.
