Shillong, Jan 18: Despite acknowledging the rapid surge in Covid-19 cases as ‘very alarming’, Meghalaya government still isn’t considering imposition of lockdown in the State to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Meghalaya reported 275 new Covid-19 cases as on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters in the city, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said, “The government is not considering lockdown as it will affect both the rich and the poor… from the Government side we are taking Covid related programmes in the block level and down to the village level.”

Tynsong urged upon the people to follow the SOPs laid down by the government and get themselves vaccinated.

To a query, Tynsong said Meghalaya government doesn’t have any intention to follow Assam’s footstep of imposing curfew for unvaccinated citizens.
