Shillong, July 22: The Special Judge (POCSO) of East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, has convicted and sentenced Shambhu Ray to 7 years of imprisonment with a fine of Rs 30,000 for committing an offense against a minor.
The case was registered at Khliehriat Police Station (C/No. 27/04/2023) under sections 5(m)/6 of the POCSO Act.
The investigation was conducted meticulously by SI D.D. Warjri, and a charge sheet was filed on July 11, 2023 (CS No. 19/2023).

The court has also ordered a compensation of ₹4,00,000 to be paid to the minor survivor. This compensation will be administered by the Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat.
The Special Judge (POCSO) of East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, has also convicted another accused identified as Peitlang Bamon for committing an offense against a minor.
Bamon has been sentenced to 4 years and 3 years of imprisonment for offenses punishable under sections 8 and 12 of the POCSO Act, respectively, along with a fine of Rs 20,000 for each section.
The case was registered at Khliehriat Women Police Station (C/No. 32/08/2021) under sections 7/8/11(1)/12/18 of the POCSO Act. The investigation was conducted meticulously by WP-Inspector O. Tyngkan, and a charge sheet was filed on October 6, 2021 (CS No. 32/2021).
The court has also ordered a compensation of Rs 1,50,000 to be paid to the minor survivor.
