Shillong, July 22: Forty-six students from the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) have qualified the prestigious UGC NET/JRF examination held in June 2025, which is a significant milestone in the University’s journey of academic excellence.
In recognition of the achievement, the university will reimburse the full admission and semester fees of all successful candidates under its pioneering Payback Policy—a unique initiative that rewards meritorious students for clearing top-tier national exams such as UGC NET, GATE, SLET, and Civil Services.
“This success is a reflection of our academic rigour and deep-rooted commitment to student empowerment,” said Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque. “We are proud of our students and will continue to ensure that no talent is held back due to financial limitations.”
A total of seventy-one students cracked UGC NET/JRF in 2024, and over 489 students have cleared NET and SLET in recent years. Since the launch of the NET Forum in 2017, USTM has provided free evening coaching sessions for aspirants and refunded over ₹1.3 crore to students under the Payback Policy so far.
“We go beyond textbooks. Our coaching includes soft skills, interview training, and motivation, creating well-rounded achievers,” said Vice Chancellor Prof. G.D. Sharma.
USTM is the only private university in Northeast India to receive an A grade from NAAC in its first assessment cycle and is ranked among the top 200 Indian universities by NIRF for three consecutive years. With 61% female students and 65% women faculty, the university also stands out for gender inclusion.
“This is not just about passing an exam—it’s about transforming lives,” said Dr. Trishna Thakuria, Director of USTM’s NET Forum. “We’re committed to making quality education and career success accessible to all.”
