SHILLONG, JUL 3: The District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills, has directed a Booth Level Officer (BLO) to immediately retrieve all Enumeration Forms distributed on June 30, July 1 and July 2 from the residence of a former legislator of 18-West Shillong constituency.
The action follows reports alleging that forms were being distributed from the ex-MLA’s residence as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
“The incident has been taken note of by the District Election Officer and the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), and a spot inspection was conducted by the AERO on July 2, to ascertain facts on the grounds,” Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal said.
Subsequently, the BLO concerned was directed to “immediately retrieve all the Enumeration forms distributed on the 30th June, 2026, 1st July and 2nd July, 2026.”
From July 3, the AERO of the Assembly constituency will personally assist the BLO in distributing Enumeration Forms to eligible electors and “make a daily visit to the Part and personally monitor the distribution of Enumeration Form till the completion of the Enumeration process,” he stated.

The directive was issued after DEO Baranwal met representatives of political parties on Friday morning to review the SIR exercise in the district.
During the meeting, he informed that 63,731 Enumeration Forms have been distributed across 15 Assembly constituencies, excluding Sohra Sub-division, as of 5 pm on July 2, 2026.
Booth Level Agent (BLA) forms have so far been received from two national parties and one state party.
Reiterating the scope of the exercise, the Deputy Commissioner said the “primary purpose of the Special Intensive Revision is not to enroll new voters but to enumerate the existing electors as per the electoral roll of 2025 and the legacy roll of 2005.”
“Therefore the allegation of enrolment of the new ineligible voters is ill-founded,” he said.
Baranwal also called on “all the stakeholders (Political Parties and the Dorbar Shnongs) to collaborate towards ensuring the successful completion of the SIR process.”
