Must read

Shillong, Oct 09: The East Khasi Hills District Administration has requested all Durga Puja Committees (DPCs) in the area to submit a list of migrant labourers and workers who will be involved in decoration and related tasks, along with their voter ID or Aadhar card. This information is to be provided by Monday. The decision was reached during a meeting between members of the Central Puja Committee (CPC) and East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah.

It was clarified that this requirement does not extend to local vendors, labourers, and priests. According to a statement released by CPC General Secretary JL Das on Saturday, “Senior and responsible members or officials of the DPC would be allowed to escort the immersion procession on foot from the State Central Library to the CS point. All DPCs must follow the above and educate their members about the restrictions.”

He further emphasised that all DPCs should instruct their members to maintain discipline and decorum during the immersion procession on October 24.

Upon the request of the CPC delegation, the Deputy Commissioner assured that a separate order would be issued to allow Nepali DPCs to conduct their Phoolpati Yatra on October 21 and Maha Kalratri Puja at midnight on October 22. The timing for the Phoolpati Yatra on October 21 will be determined during the sector-level meeting.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner also emphasised that no individual puja performers or community puja committees would be permitted to immerse or place any idols in streams in Greater Shillong. Violators may face action from the district authorities.

Das urged all CPC Zonal Coordinators and Puja Committees in Greater Shillong to disseminate this information to all Private Puja performers in their respective zones. After performing any puja with idols, they are advised to place the idols only at CPC’s designated Immersion Ghat, Polo Shillong.
