Guwahati, Nov 1: Leading medical experts, policymakers, and researchers convened at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Guwahati for a two-day National Conclave and Policy Dialogue on Tuberculosis, held from October 30–31, 2025, to chart a roadmap for genomic testing-based TB elimination in India.
Organized under the theme “Upgrading and Upscaling Universal Drug Susceptibility Testing (UDST) for Tuberculosis and Transitioning from Phenotypic Testing to Genomic Testing: TB Mortality Reduction and Disease Elimination for Viksit Bharat 2047,” the conclave emphasized innovation, precision diagnostics, and policy coordination in advancing India’s fight against tuberculosis.

The event brought together clinicians, molecular biologists, microbiologists, policymakers, and TB survivors, underscoring a unified effort toward a TB Mukt Bharat.
Presiding over the valedictory session, Assam Health Minister Ashok Singhal reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making the state a model for TB elimination.
“TB Mukt Bharat, Swasth Bharat, Viksit Bharat—this vision embodies our collective aspiration for a healthier, stronger nation,” he said. “Assam is determined to lead through focused action, innovation, and disciplined implementation.”
Scientific sessions explored a wide range of topics, including Universal Drug Susceptibility Testing (UDST), genomic sequencing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, multi-drug resistant TB (MDR-TB) diagnostics, policy and financing frameworks, and the integration of next-generation sequencing into India’s TB research and diagnostic systems.

Experts also highlighted the vital roles of NIKSHAY Mitras, community participation, and the ‘One Nation, One Action’ framework in driving a rights-based, coordinated national response to TB elimination.
Concluding the event, Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Puranik, Executive Director of AIIMS Guwahati, reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to bridging research and public health.
“Genomic testing represents the next frontier in TB diagnostics—ushering India into an era of precision public health and equitable access to care,” he said. “At AIIMS Guwahati, we are dedicated to translating research excellence into tangible health outcomes for the nation.”
The conclave marked a major step forward in aligning scientific innovation, public health strategy, and national policy toward India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and a TB-free future.
