Guwahati, Nov 2: Cachar police have continued their operation against fake doctors in Assam’s Cachar district, arresting two imposters within two days.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Supal Roy (42), a resident of Chotojalenga Part II under Dwarbond Police Station, and Indrajit Roy (39), a resident of Tatpara, Jalpaiguri, West Bengal.
Acting on reliable inputs, Cachar police launched an operation and caught one of the fake doctors red-handed while he was practising medicine at his pharmacy located in the Rosekandy Tea Estate under Dwarbond Police Station.
“We arrested him from his chamber where he had been practising. We also seized documents and several prescriptions he had issued to patients,” said a police official.
In a separate operation, another fake doctor, Indrajit Roy, was arrested from Maa Ayurved at E&D Colony in Tarapur. He had been working there as a visiting doctor and prescribing medicines to patients without any qualifications.
“Indrajit Roy does not possess any medical certificate. He was prescribing medicines to people illegally. We have arrested him and initiated further legal action,” another police official said.
Speaking to reporters, Cachar Additional SP (Crime) Subrata Sen said, “For the last two months, our operation against fake doctors has been ongoing. So far, we have arrested 17 fake doctors from different areas of Cachar. In the past two days alone, two more have been apprehended.”
Sen further informed that the police have opened a special helpline number (6026903329) for the public to report information related to fake doctors.
“We have more information about such individuals, and our operation against fake doctors will continue,” Sen added.
