Farming of ‘Cole Crops’ in winters stressed at World Food Day observation in West Jaiñtia Hills

Jowai, Oct 16: The World Food Day was observed in West Jaiñtia Hills on Saturday at the Community Hall of Shangpung Moolibang under the theme ‘Our actions are our future, Better Production, Better Nutrition, Better Environment Better Life’.The event was organised by the Office of the District Horticulture Officer, West Jaiñtia Hills and was presided over by the District Agriculture Officer, D. Pyrbot, and the Waheh Chnong of Shangpung Moosyiem, Richard Langbang endorsed the function as the Chief Guest in the presence of Agriculture Development Officer, Laskein Block, R. Lamare, Horticulture Development Officer, Laskein Block, Rida W. Rangad, amongst others.The 16th of October is observed as the World Food Day as it is the day when the Food And Agriculture Organisation (FAO) was established in the year 1979.

Speakers during this function urged upon the farming community of Jaiñtia Hills to start farming ‘Cole Crops’ during the winter seasons like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower to enhance the productivity of their fields which will increase their income.They also urged the attendees to visit the officials from the Agriculture Office and other line departments to get their doubts cleared.
