Must read

Guwahati, Oct 16: The United Liberation Front of Asom- Independent (ULFA-I) Captain Jugen Mili also known as Himalay Asom surrendered before Assam police on Saturday. It may be mentioned that Jugen Mili’s surrender has come months after ULFA-I senior leader Jibon Moran surrendered before Dibrugarh police.

According to police, Mili is a resident of Disangmukh, Dokla of Sivasagar in district of Assam, and joined ULFA in 1996.

After spending more than 25 years with ULFA-I, Mili has decided to return home.

Himalay Asom’s surrender is seen as a major boost to the government’s effort to try and bring rebels to the mainstream.

After Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn-in as the chief minister of Assam, he appealed the ULFA chief Paresh Baruah to come to mainstream for talks to solve the decade old insurgency problem.

It might me mentioned that ULFA Commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah as praised Himanta Biswa Sarma in a television channel.

Baruah stated that if Himanta Biswa Sarma would lead the talks between government and ULFA then he is ready for talks.
