Must read

Tura, Oct 16: National People’s Party (NPP) Chief and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has put his party’s election campaign into high gear on Saturday displaying to the crowds his government’s track record on ensuring maximum government in minimum time frame of just three years.

Seeking votes for NPP candidate Abdus Saleh, the chief minister projected a scenario of “win-win” for the people of Rajabala.“A vote and victory for Abdus Saleh is a victory for the people of Rajabala constituency, because he will be a part of my government and will be directly dealing with me on the needs of the constituency. Our government’s track record of having built the maximum roads in a minimum time frame of three years is evidence of our commitment to the growth of our state and our people. Equal opportunities will be given to all-people in the hills and the plains,” assured Conrad while addressing a mammoth crowd in Rajabala during the evening hours.

The chief minister told the gathering that the NPP would win the Rajabala contest with a “thumping” majority. He plans to campaign in the constituency for five days in the run up to the polls.Heaping praise on Saleh, whom he called his uncle, Conrad said the NPP candidate has been part of the family for 40 long years.

Congress attacked as a ‘sinking ship’

“Will anyone sit in a car where there is no driver? The Congress is a sinking ship and it is breaking up almost every day with resignations across the country” claimed Conrad.

Speaking on the same line of fragmentation, he targeted former chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma who allegedly tried to break the party by going to Kolkata and meeting with Trinamool chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee before returning to Shillong to visit various puja mandaps.

“Across the country the Congress is collapsing. Think wisely and vote for a party that will work for the peoples’ interest,” stressed the NPP chief.

Intimidation charge on Congress

Hitting out at the Congress and former regime of Dr Mukul Sangma as chief minister, Conrad reminded voters of the alleged threats and intimidation unleashed on the people by the previous government and its supporters.

“For almost ten years, the earlier regime terrorised people in the plain belt. They created fear and intimidation. Those days are now gone,” asserted Conrad and mentioned that the best way to fight against them is with a vote for progress and stability.
