Garo Hills police nab dacoits, recover over Rs. 13 lakh of stolen money

Tura, Oct 16: Quick response from police of South Garo Hills and East Garo Hills districts on the night of October 14th has led to the busting of a dacoity gang that attacked a truck driver and stole Rs. 20 lakh which was being dispatched for payment to betelnut farmers in the remote Rongara region of South Garo Hills.

According to police, on 14th October 2021 at around 8:15 pm South Garo Hills police received a telephonic information from one person that the driver of the 1109 truck AS 25 DC 5930 who was sent by him to pick up betelnuts from Dambuk, Dilsingre and Rongara area had informed him that in the evening at around  6:30pm to 7:00pm  some 5 to 6 unknown miscreants having dagger and pistol came in a white Alto car Reg. no. not known and blocked the road at Panda Reserve area and thereafter committed dacoity from his truck.

According to the driver, the gang snatched away Rs 20,40,000 which was kept in the said truck in the tool box near the chassis of the truck for making payment for betelnut at Dambuk,  Dilsingre & Rongara area. They also took away the mobile phones of the driver and two other occupants of the truck.

The owner of the vehicle and the cash, on getting the information, immediately informed the Baghmara Police Station over phone for necessary action.

Accordingly, on receiving the above information O/C Baghmara Police station started activating all the Police Stations/Out Posts/Anti Dacoity camps of Police on the Highway including the thanas of other districts and also reliable sources to ascertain and track the said unknown miscreants.

At around 10pm they received information from reliable sources that the said suspect are seen somewhere near Rongmil, East Garo Hills and hence East Garo Hills Police was activated and requested to intercept the said suspect.

Accordingly, as per the inputs provided by South Garo Hills, Police teams from Rongmil Police post intercepted the said vehicle, a Maruti Alto bearing Reg. No. AS01 KC 0949, and apprehended all six dacoits and from their possession recovered Rs. 13,20,500 and mobile phones of the truck driver and other two occupants of the truck.During interrogation of the arrested men, police came to know that the driver of the truck was the mastermind of the instant case and accordingly he was also arrested along with the six dacoits by East Garo Hills Police. Name of the accused persons
