Fear of strike compels GHADC authorities to hasten salary release

Must read

TURA, Oct 9: On the eve of a three days protest strike by hundreds of employees of the GHADC to vent their anger against the Executive committee for their repeated delays in releasing just two months of dues, out of the 31 pending months, the Albinush Marak led EC has moved into top gear pushing salaries into waiting accounts of the staff prompting the workers to call off their stir that was proposed to take off from Tuesday.

Leaders of the striking employees under the aegis of Non-Gazetted Employees Association in the GHADC decided to halt their proposed stir as the authorities made extra efforts to get salaries disbursed into accounts of their staff, something that was missing for well over three weeks since assurance was last given.

The employees had been angered by what they say was a broken promise by CEM Albinush Marak who told them on September 18th that at least two months dues would be cleared within days.

But that did not happen and it was found that only a handful of employees in the lowest ranks of the council had found their salaries released while hundreds of others were left in the lurch.

With the council authorities unable to provide adequate answers to the delay and the pending dues fast accumulating into weeks, angry employees decided to stop working from the 10th of October, despite the EC of Albinush Marak clarifying that there was sufficient funds available to pay each employee their two month dues.

It was only on Monday that a substantial number of employees received their salaries into accounts compelling the staff to halt their upcoming stir.
