Williamnagar, Sept 8: A complaint has been lodged against the Williamnagar Municipal Board for allegedly dumping waste in an open and unscientific manner near the Williamnagar Bazar, causing severe public nuisance and health hazards.

In the FIR submitted to the Officer-in-Charge of Williamnagar Police Station on Monday, complainant Mingran T. Sangma accused the Municipal Board of negligence and irresponsibility in handling waste. The complaint highlighted that the continuous dumping of garbage has created unbearable foul smells and air pollution, affecting thousands of people who pass through the area daily.

According to the FIR, the unhygienic disposal of waste poses grave health risks, particularly to children, elderly persons, and those suffering from asthma, high and low blood pressure, and other ailments. Sangma further stated that the practice violates environmental norms and amounts to public nuisance, yet no corrective action has been taken despite repeated grievances from the public.

“This act amounts to public nuisance, violation of environmental norms, and endangerment to public health. Despite repeated grievances by the public, no proper action has been taken to ensure hygienic and scientific disposal of waste” the complaint reads.

Sangma urged the police to register the case under the Environment Protection Act and other relevant provisions, and to take immediate legal action against the Municipal Board.
