Williamnagar, April 24: A case of alleged assault and attempt to murder has been reported from South Garo Hills, with a local resident accusing a student leader of carrying out a violent, premeditated attack.

Francis S. Marak, a resident of Jadi under Nongalbibra police jurisdiction, has filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Jadi Police Outpost against Raindon M. Sangma of Rongsa Aw•e. In his complaint, Marak alleged that he was attacked on the night of April 23 at around 9:40 PM while returning from Gasuapara.

According to the FIR, the incident took place at Dangsa Aw•e, where the accused allegedly intercepted Marak and instructed him to stop his vehicle. Upon complying, Marak claimed he was suddenly and violently assaulted without provocation. He alleged that the accused used a knuckle guard and other weapons to inflict serious injuries, describing the attack as deliberate and life-threatening.

Marak further stated that the nature of the assault, including the use of weapons and the extent of injuries sustained, indicates a premeditated attempt on his life. He is currently undergoing medical treatment.

The complaint also informed that the accused serves as the Vice President of the Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Nongalbibra Regional Unit (Southern Zone). Marak expressed apprehension that the accused’s position could be used to influence or obstruct the course of the investigation.

In addition, the FIR contains allegations that the accused has previously engaged in acts of coercion and extortion involving local businessmen, coal traders and shopkeepers in Nongalbibra and Jadi. The complainant has urged authorities to examine these claims during the investigation.

Marak has sought registration of the case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to attempt to murder, assault and criminal intimidation. He has also appealed for urgent police action, citing concerns for his personal safety.

Copies of the FIR have been forwarded to the Superintendent of Police, South Garo Hills, as well as to the Garo Students’ Union leadership and the media.
