Shillong, Oct 13: As Shillong prepared for the immersion of the idols of Goddess Durga for a tearful adieu as the goddess embarks on her journey back to the heavenly abode, the city got a shock when it heard of a fire in the Khyndailad area in the morning hours.
The fire broke out at the OB Shopping Mall in Khyndailad on Sunday morning at about 6.30 AM.
Despite the huge plumes of smoke billowing out from the building, SP (F&ES) for Shillong region, Darwin M. Sangma, said it was a minor fire which was promptly brought under control.
He said more details are waited.
As per initial reports, the fire might have started from one of the rooms of the Roi-ki Hotel, which is located on the top floor of the OB Shopping Mall.
More details are awaited.
