First Pic of Vikram lander on Moon’s South Pole taken by Chandrayaan-3’s Pragyan rover

Shillong, Aug 30: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Wednesday shared the first picture that has been clicked by the Chandrayaan-3’s Pragyan rover of the Vikram Lander this morning.

In the pictures shared by the ISRO, taken by the rover, it shows that the lander has been carrying out experiments on the lunar surface since its touchdown on the moon on August 23. The picture was taken by the navigation camera onboard the Rover (NavCam), the space agency said.

ISRO has so far shared two major findings on the moon’s south pole. On Sunday (August 27), the space agency also shared its first observation of the temperature on the lunar surface, which was higher than expected by many scientists.

On Tuesday (August 29), the ISRO said that the rover had detected sulphur at the South Pole.

The ISRO said that in the preliminary analysis, it had revealed the presence of aluminium (Al), sulphur (S), calcium (Ca), iron (Fe), chromium (Cr), and titanium (Ti) on the lunar surface.

“Further measurements have revealed the presence of manganese (Mn), silicon (Si), and oxygen (O). A thorough investigation regarding the presence of hydrogen is underway,” it added.

India’s  Chandrayaan-3’s Pragyan rover landed successfully on moon’s surface on August 23.
