Gala Conclusion of the Fishing Competition in Bajengdoba Bildeng Wari Uplifts Tourism

Williamnagar, August 8: The Bajengdoba Bildeng Wari witnessed a grand and successful conclusion of the fishing competition organised by the Masilenga Fishing Group on Saturday (August 5).

The event, strategically designed to promote tourism in Bajengdoba, enthralled participants from across Garo Hills, including enthusiasts from Shillong, Assam, and Karbi Anglong. The competition drew an impressive participation of 927 skilled anglers, capturing the essence of the region’s fishing fervor.

Commencing punctually at 9:20 a.m. and culminating without any untoward incidents at 2:20 p.m., the competition unfolded as an engaging spectacle of angling prowess.

The top honors were claimed by John Clemister M. Marak from Chenggapara, Purakhasia, securing the 1st Prize, a coveted cash reward of Rs. 5 lakhs. John’s remarkable feat involved landing a substantial 3-kg, 320-gram fish.


Kakim Chalang Sangma from Bilguri, Agia, clinched the second position, earning a commendable cash prize of Rs. 3 lakhs for his skillful capture of a 2-kg, 170-gram fish. Justin R. Sangma of Mendal demonstrated his fishing finesse to seize the third spot, earning a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh 50 thousand for his 2-kg, 140-gram catch.

In a gesture of appreciation for the participants’ dedication, the organizers also awarded consolation prizes. Ten adept anglers received Rs. 20 thousand each, while fifteen others were honored with Rs. 15 thousand each. Additionally, twenty anglers were recognized with Rs. 10 thousand each, acknowledging their valuable contributions to the competition.


Nilkamal D. Sangma, one of the organisers, spoke exclusively to Hub News, expressing his elation over the competition’s triumphant outcome. He emphasised that the primary motive behind orchestrating the event was to boost tourism in Bajengdoba by spotlighting the remarkable Bildeng Wari. Nilkamal expressed heartfelt gratitude to participants hailing from both Garo Hills and beyond, extending appreciation to those who placed their trust in the organisers, allowing them to realise the event’s vision.
