Garo Hills racer Aneesh M. Sangma clinches First at Motorsport Rally of Coimbatore

Must read

Tura, July 28: Garo Hills’ very own Aneesh M. Sangma, a member of the Tura Motor Sports Club (TMSC), secured victory at the Blueband Sports Rally of Coimbatore 2025, securing first place in the Gypsy Class under Group F (FMSCI).

The rally, held from July 25 to 27, forms Round 2 of the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC)—India’s premier motorsport series, sanctioned by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI).

Organized by the Coimbatore Auto Sports Club (CASC), the Rally of Coimbatore is known for its technically demanding terrain and electric atmosphere. It attracts some of the best rally drivers and enthusiasts from across the country.

Teaming up with co-driver Dinky Varghese of Coimbatore, Sangma clocked impressive timings across the two-day competition:

  • Day 1: 01:07:46.000
  • Day 2: 00:33:30.700

Their consistent performance and razor-sharp execution on the gravel stages earned them a dominant win in their category marking a historic first for TMSC and a proud moment for Meghalaya.

“It’s been absolutely mind-blowing,” Aneesh said after the win. “Fast-paced pace notes, high-speed corners, caution calls, it’s chaos, it’s control and above all, it’s pure fun.”

For Sangma, the victory was not just about speed but it was the culmination of a two-decade-long dream. “Ever since I witnessed my first national rally in Garo Hills back in 2005, I knew motorsport was more than a thrill..it was my calling.”

He dedicated the win to his roots, acknowledging the unwavering support of the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma, MLA Sanjay Sangma (Mahendraganj) and the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs. “This win is for Garo Hills, for Meghalaya, and the entire Northeast. It shows what can happen when passion meets purpose.”

As a core member of TMSC, Sangma also used the national platform to spotlight Bilgaro, the flagship rally event of Garo Hills. “To my surprise, many drivers at the event already knew about Bilgaro and respect what we’re building.”

He attributed past dips in national turnout to calendar clashes with INRC events, but expressed optimism for the upcoming 10th edition of Bilgaro (Bilgaro X) in November 2025. “I’ve personally invited top drivers and JINRC teams. We’re hoping for strong national participation this year and it is going to be bigger than ever”, he added.
