Tura, July 21: The Garo Hills Chess Association (GHCA) organized an Under-16 Chess Tournament on Saturday at the DC Park Chess Arena to celebrate World Chess Day.
GHCA President Jesse R. Marak inaugurated the event, highlighting the significance of chess in developing strategy, planning, and tactics.
Nikman G. Momin clinched the championship title, followed by Mayukh Sah as the 1st Runner-Up, Amaziah Gapesa Ch. Marak as the 2nd Runner-Up, and Cheaha Nikgame G. Momin as the 3rd Runner-Up.
The closing ceremony, led by GHCA General Secretary Tengrang R. Sangma, saw the winners being congratulated and awarded cash prizes and certificates by various dignitaries.
The celebration concluded with a concert by the Meghalaya Grass Root Project, adding a festive touch to the successful event.
